Student Training, Internship & Placement Policy

The Training & Placement Office (TPO) of Government College of Engineering, Kolhapur is committed to providing students with equitable access to training, internship, placement, career guidance, and industry-interaction opportunities.

This policy establishes a transparent and systematic framework for participation in TPO activities and campus recruitment processes. It aims to develop industry-ready graduates while maintaining professional standards, discipline, fairness, and mutual respect among students, recruiters, faculty coordinators, and the institution.

1. Objectives of the Policy

The objectives of the TPO Student Policy are:

  1. To provide equal and fair opportunities to eligible students for internships, placements, training, and career development.
  2. To establish a transparent and structured campus recruitment process.
  3. To enhance students' technical, analytical, communication, aptitude, and professional skills.
  4. To facilitate meaningful industry–institute interaction.
  5. To provide students with exposure to recruitment practices, industry expectations, emerging technologies, and career opportunities.
  6. To encourage students to participate actively in internships, projects, training programmes, workshops, expert sessions, and placement activities.
  7. To ensure professional conduct and discipline during all TPO and recruitment-related activities.
  8. To maintain appropriate records of students' training, internship, and placement activities.

2. Scope of the Policy

This policy applies to all students who participate in activities conducted or facilitated by the Training & Placement Office, including:

  • Campus recruitment
  • Off-campus recruitment opportunities communicated through TPO
  • Internships
  • Pre-placement training
  • Aptitude and technical assessments
  • Pre-placement talks
  • Industry visits
  • Career guidance programmes
  • Mock interviews
  • Group discussions
  • Technical workshops
  • Industry expert sessions

3. Student Registration with TPO

Students seeking to participate in TPO activities shall register with the Training & Placement Office as per the schedule announced by the institute.

Students shall provide accurate and updated information regarding:

  • Name
  • Branch / Programme
  • Academic qualifications
  • CGPA / percentage
  • Backlogs, if any
  • Contact details
  • Resume/CV
  • Technical skills
  • Certifications
  • Projects
  • Internship experience
  • Other relevant achievements
Important

Students are responsible for the accuracy of all information submitted to the TPO or recruiting organization.

Submission of false, misleading, forged, or manipulated information may result in disciplinary action and/or cancellation of participation in TPO activities.

4. Eligibility for Campus Recruitment

Eligibility for each recruitment process shall be determined primarily by the recruiting organization.

Eligibility criteria may include:

  • Branch / discipline
  • Minimum CGPA or percentage
  • Number of backlogs
  • Current backlog status
  • Academic year
  • Graduation requirements
  • Technical skills
  • Internship experience
  • Age or other criteria, wherever applicable

The eligibility criteria may vary from one organization to another. The final selection decision rests entirely with the recruiting organization.

6. Attendance and Punctuality

Students participating in TPO activities shall:

  • Report at the specified venue on time.
  • Follow the schedule communicated by the TPO.
  • Attend pre-placement talks and assessments as instructed.
  • Remain available throughout the recruitment process when required.
  • Inform the TPO in advance in case of a genuine difficulty.

Repeated absence, late reporting, or failure to follow instructions may affect participation in subsequent TPO activities.

7. Professional Conduct

Students shall maintain professional behaviour during interactions with:

  • Company representatives

  • Faculty coordinators
  • Student coordinators
  • Other candidates

Students are expected to:

  • Dress appropriately for recruitment activities.
  • Communicate respectfully.
  • Maintain discipline.
  • Follow organizational instructions.
  • Avoid disruptive behaviour.
  • Maintain confidentiality of recruitment information.
  • Represent the institution professionally.

8. Resume and Application Policy

Students shall prepare their resumes carefully and ensure that all information is truthful.

A resume should contain relevant information such as:

  • Educational qualifications
  • Technical skills
  • Projects
  • Internships
  • Certifications
  • Achievements
  • Co-curricular activities

Students shall not include:

  • False qualifications
  • Fake certifications
  • Fabricated projects
  • Misleading work experience
  • Incorrect academic information

Any misrepresentation discovered during or after recruitment may result in appropriate institutional action.

9. Student Withdrawal Policy

A student who registers for a recruitment process should make every reasonable effort to participate.

Withdrawal after registration should generally be avoided unless there is a genuine and unavoidable reason.

Students who repeatedly register and subsequently withdraw without valid reasons may be restricted from participating in certain future recruitment activities, subject to TPO/institutional rules.

10. Offer and Selection Policy

Once a student is selected by a recruiting organization, the student shall:

  • Inform the TPO about the selection.
  • Submit the required selection/offer information.
  • Follow the organization's joining instructions.
  • Complete documentation required by the recruiter.

Students shall carefully evaluate the employment terms, role, location, compensation, bond/service conditions, and other conditions communicated by the recruiting organization before accepting an offer.

11. Placement Opportunity and Participation Policy

The Institute follows a placement opportunity policy aimed at ensuring fair and equitable access to campus recruitment opportunities for all eligible students.

A student who has been selected and placed in one organization may be permitted to participate in subsequent recruitment drives conducted through the Institute, subject to the prevailing placement policy and the requirements of the recruiting organization.

Such participation shall require prior permission from the Training & Placement Office (TPO). The TPO will consider factors such as the student's existing offer, the nature of the new opportunity, eligibility criteria, package/role offered, and the overall objective of ensuring equitable placement opportunities for other eligible students.

The Training & Placement Office reserves the right to approve or decline such participation in accordance with the applicable placement policy and institutional requirements.

This approach is intended to balance individual career aspirations with the Institute's responsibility to provide maximum and equitable placement opportunities to eligible students.

12. Internship Policy

Students are encouraged to undertake internships in organizations relevant to their academic programme and career interests.

Internships may be:

  • Institute-facilitated
  • Company-sponsored
  • Student-initiated
  • Government/industry supported
  • Research-oriented
  • Project-based

Students shall obtain the necessary institutional approval wherever required.

Students undertaking internships shall:

  • Follow organizational rules.

  • Obtain a certificate or proof of completion wherever applicable.
  • Share internship details with the department/TPO for record purposes.

14. Student Responsibilities

Every student participating in TPO activities is expected to:

  1. Regularly check official TPO notices and communications.
  2. Register within prescribed deadlines.
  3. Maintain an updated resume.
  4. Keep academic and personal information accurate.
  5. Prepare adequately for recruitment processes.
  6. Attend scheduled activities punctually.
  7. Follow instructions issued by TPO officials.
  8. Maintain professional conduct.
  9. Respect recruiters, faculty members, staff, and fellow students.
  10. Inform the TPO of important changes in placement/internship status.
  11. Maintain confidentiality of company-related information where required.
  12. Provide feedback when requested.

15. Student Placement Coordinators

Student Placement Coordinators assist the TPO in facilitating recruitment activities.

They may be responsible for:

  • Communicating official notices.
  • Coordinating student attendance.
  • Supporting recruitment-day arrangements.
  • Assisting company representatives.
  • Coordinating student queries.
  • Maintaining discipline during placement activities.

Student coordinators shall not make unauthorized commitments or communicate unofficial information on behalf of the TPO or the institution.

16. Communication Policy

Official placement information shall be communicated through designated institutional channels.

Students should regularly monitor:

  • TPO notices

  • Departmental communication channels

Students should not rely solely on informal or unofficial sources for important placement information.

17. Confidentiality

Students shall respect the confidentiality of information shared by recruiting organizations.
